John 6:67-69 (KJV)
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Reflections:
Just prior to Peter saying the above, Jesus said, �Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:53-54).� But even in light of these bewildering statements of Jesus � in spite of the fact that many were leaving off following Him, the disciples stood firm.
Jesus gave them the clue to this mystery during his discourse: �It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63).� Perhaps the ones that truly believed, like Peter and the other ten picked up on it (not Judas Iscariot) and in some way it made sense. In any event they couldn�t leave Jesus. They believed him to be the way, the truth and the life � the only way to the Father.
Perhaps what Jesus was saying was that unless we totally internalize him; receive Jesus in to our innermost being and set up a throne for him from which we will desire and allow him to reign over our lives, we will have no part in the kingdom of heaven. Let�s face it, without Christ living within us we have �no life�!
To want God and to have �no life� is to go through endless religious rituals and manmade rules that usurp the grace of God and replace it with legalism and bondage; usually to an institution, a priesthood on an individual. Pity the man who strives his whole life and never finds God.
We are so blessed to know the Savior (to have His life abiding in us) and to be called by His name. Anyone who is truly saved has already eaten the flesh of the Son of Man and drank His blood � gladly �
