Romans 11:5-6 (NKJV)

5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

 Reflections:

Verse six started my head to spinning. I had to slow myself way down to get a grip on it. Its a wonderful verse about the incomparable God-given gift of grace in contrast to works (trying to earn something from God like salvation, or forgiveness for our sins). Grace means Gods unmerited (undeserved) favor and graciousness.

In that we could never be good enough to get to heaven by works God gave us the free gift of grace through Jesus Christ victory over sin and death. Grace and good works are like oil and water. As hard as we might shake the bottle, they simply will not mix.

Why is it then that, even after were saved, we keep trying to earn Gods forgiveness so that we can divest ourselves of past guilt and shame? This approach to God is an endless demon-inspired not-so-merry-go-round that simply does not work! The Devils a liar -- the father of lies, and this is how he keeps us chained to our past.

Many of the past issues that torment us are now un-resolvable in the natural, but they certainly remain resolvable and forgivable in Christ. We may not ever forget the issue, but the associated pain can be eliminated.

Jesus said, You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32). The truth is that were already fully forgiven as soon as we confess our sin in Jesus name; end of story. Do we believe the written, established Word of God, or do we choose to believe the devil who would egg us on to an endless treadmill of emotional turmoil.

Perhaps its time for us to choose: dark or light defeat or victory works or grace
