Luke 6:43-44 (New King James Version)
43 For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.
Reflections:
I once had an apple tree in my back yard which brought forth the most absolutely beautiful pinkish/purple apple blossoms, but when it came time for the apples, they were the size of a marble and just about as hard. They went far beyond bitter. Yes, it was an apple tree, but its fruit was worthless. Perhaps if I had pruned and nurtured it, it might have done better.
Amidst the planting of the Lord (in the earth) are many apple trees (Christians). Most appear beautiful in blossom, but when it comes time to partake of their fruit we can sometimes become disappointed in its size, quality and flavor.
I eat an apple each day as I drive to work. Before I place it to my mouth I visually inspect it. I squeeze it all over looking for bruises or rotted areas -- or whether or not its spongy and dehydrated. Only then do I bite into it. I just dont like any surprises when I eat something.
I believe that this caution should hold true spiritually when were about to partake of another professing Christians fruit (ministry). Im not talking about being overly suspicious and paranoid of everyone, just a bit cautious.
Isnt it interesting that one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is discerning of spirits (1 Cor 12:10)
