33 Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.
Reflections:
I was reading in an old book put out by Readers Digest 1981 called Back to Basics and I learned something very interesting. Did you know that certain vegetables seem to thrive in the company of one plant while doing poorly in the company of another?
There is evidence that secretions given off by the roots of some plants are the cause of this effect. For example the roots of black walnut trees exude a chemical that inhibits the growth of tomatoes. On the other hand onions apparently stimulate the growth of beans, peas and several other vegetables.
This of course got me to thinking about the folks were planted close to in life and what effect they have on our spiritual well being. If we hang out with the unsaved long enough well begin to mimic them. Soon we will begin to talk like them, desensitized to even the nastiest of four letter words, just so that we fit in.
We will end up carnal Christians; hypocrites; more like the world than the Savior. On the other hand if we hang out with Christ-centered believers we will be stimulated into spiritual growth and will bring forth fruit abundantly through the Holy Spirit.
Its really is a no-brainer that Bad company corrupts good morals! Maybe its time to reconsider what were planted next to, and to do something about it
