John 8:32 (KJV)
32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Reflections:
Truth is the key that unlocks the cell and sets the captive free. With truth a lifetime of emotional incarceration and bondage can be instantly released. Chains of guilt, shame, bitterness and sin are forced to relinquish their strangle-hold on us. All this is ours by grace through Christs triumph over sin and death.
You say, yea, that all sounds right , but how come it doesnt work for me? Ive tried everything and Im still in bondage!
Did you know that some of the best kept secrets are staring us right in the face, but yet we cant see them?
For instance -- One of the most profound statements that Jesus ever made was, Without me you can do nothing (John 15:5). He was speaking of Himself being the vine and we the branches. He was saying that life comes only through the vine! Jesus is the vine! Why is it then that we run everywhere else but to Jesus for our freedom?
Therefore, in becoming free from that which keeps us emotionally incarcerated, is in knowing that we simply cannot do anything on our own to permanently change our emotional state (and neither can anyone else). Unless God somehow intervenes we cannot, and will not, enjoy the freedom that has been given us in Christ.
