2 Timothy 3:16-17 Amplified Bible
16Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), 17So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Reflections:
No matter how hard we might try as Christians to do it all right, we are inevitably going to fall short and find ourselves walking in some level of error. Whether its that we get caught up in pride and status seeking; trying to impress others, or believing that the only right way is our way.
Have you ever got caught up in the prosperity message where God wants you rich, that is as long as you first send a bunch of money to the one preaching the message. Or how about the holy anointing oil straight from Israel; guaranteed to cure whatever ails us.
Maybe our error is an unwillingness to forgive someone for hurting us. Gossip and faultfinding could also be a serious error. Maybe were class conscious and tend to look down our nose at others, who we consider to be, lesser believers.
One things for sure; if we truly want to know our error all we have to do is listen in humility to those that attempt to correct us. The Holy Spirit is behind this. He is always attempting to correct and to lead us into all truth.
Over the years Ive learned a valuable lesson which has helped me to grow spiritually, and that lesson is that in any, and all, criticism I receive, from whomever, there will always be a measure of truth in it. Sometime the measure is small and sometimes it is significantly large. If we will but take the time to humble down and be still before the Lord, it will be revealed to us. We can then come and ask the Holy Spirit to work the correction in us.
When we come to the place where we no longer need correction -- weve stopped breathing
11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth (Prov 3:11-12).
