2 Timothy 1:6-7 (AMP)

That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [[a]with those of the elders at your ordination].

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

 Reflections:

Now we may not have had hands laid on us by an Apostle or the elders, but that doesnt mean were exempt from staying at full capacity in Christ. Perhaps Timothy slackened his spiritual sails a bit and was not being driven by the wind of Holy Spirit as he ought to have been.

It appears as though he had become a bit timid and afraid because of all the persecution surrounding him. Sometimes we, like Timothy, just need to be prodded and reassured that what we are undertaking for Christ is so vitally important.

 Jesus said it this way,

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp- stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matt 5:13-16).

The Apostle Paul writing to the Philippians gives this advice,

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you (Phil 3:13-15).

So lets all take a deep spiritual breath and allow The Holy Spirit to fill our sails once again
