48 For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
Reflections:
Those Christians that have been especially endowed by God with a very special gifting, talent and/or heavenly calling have an equally great and special responsibility as to how to use their gift. There are those who have been born with awesome talents i.e. singers, musicians, evangelists, preachers, etc. Others have been given one or more of the amazing gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in 1 Co 12:7-11.
These gifts and callings will without a doubt draw men to these gifted ones. As Christians we are not meant to promote self with our God-given endowments, but rather the kingdom of God. Our gift will automatically promote us if it is surrendered to the Holy Spirit, and in turn we must give God all the glory. One must stay abased, yet confident in their calling.
It is of a truth that: A mans gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men (Prov 18:36). This can be a blessing or a curse. The world and carnal Christians are quickly drawn to a God-given talent, calling, or gifting and will encourage the possessor to promote themselves; leaving God to take second place or even less.
This can quickly go from bad to worse (worse being personal fame and fortune) because the lower nature quickly responds to the praise and accolades of men. This is one place you can be sure the devil prowls around seeking who he may devour; whom the endowed must resist steadfast in the faith. Take heed: if you are one of the exceptionally gifted; you must stay humbled down if you are to survive the onslaught, and God is to be glorified.
For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required
