Psalm 109:4-5 (KJV)
4For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. 5And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
Reflections:
Jesus can most certainly relate to these verses. No one ever loved or suffered as much. Not only did he give His Body and blood for us (the ultimate expression of love), his suffering went beyond the physical to the spiritual, as he also bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet 2:24).
Many of us have experienced these verses at some level also; especially if weve walked as the Master asked us to. Jesus calls this a blessing when it does happen. Look here:
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you (Matt 5:11-12).
How come it doesnt feel like a blessing? It really hurts to be misunderstood, especially when weve given our all to do something really special with a pure motive behind it. But then again were called to suffer with Him (Rom 8:16-18). Christianity is not about us; its about Christ in us.
Bottom line is that we will be misunderstood, and we will suffer, but there is a solution! One that will heal our heart in short order whenever this does happens. The solution is to give ourselves to prayer for the person that hurt us so that we can quickly forgive. This will keep our heart well and give the person that did the evil over to God (Rom 12:19-21).
This is how Jesus dealt with it: Father, forgive them for they know not what they do
