Luke 21:1-4 (New King James Version)ScreenHunter_28 Sep. 05 17.25.gif

1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.

Reflections:

It should be noted here that Jesus isnt putting down the rich for giving out of their abundance, but rather commending the love for, and total faith in, God that motivated this poor widow into giving all. She had only two mites. This would have equaled 1/8th of a U.S. cent. That was it; it was all she had.

This woman was way beyond poor. She could have been very bitter toward God for having lost her husband (perhaps the very reason for her poverty) but she obviously wasnt.

She was a show-stopper as Jesus watched the gift-giving in the temple that day. He was obviously impressed by her self-less giving; so much so that He made an object lesson out of her. Do you think God blessed her that day? Ill bet he did

She was at the point of despair and had nowhere else to look but up. Have you been there? Are you there now? Lets emulate the widow and give it all to Jesus: The finances, the heartaches, the broken dreams, or whatever else it might be. Bring it to that temple place in your heart, and deposit it in Gods treasury by faith.

God has promised:

beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of theLord, that he might be glorified (Isa 61:3).
