9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Reflections:
In Matt 22:14 Jesus tells us that: Many are called, but few are chosen. From our verse today we learn that the problem doesnt lie with God. He doesnt want any to perish. As a matter of fact God is holding off as long as He can so that more and more will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
I believe if God could, he would swing open wide the gates of heaven and let everyone in, sinners and all the whole motley crew! Why, because God loves sinners! He just hates their sin. And he hates it because it keeps Him distanced from the ones he loves.
God is holy and sin cannot fellowship with holiness. However, the Bible tells us that while we were yet sinners (still practicing sin) Christ died for us.
What an amazing thing to do: to love mankind so much that He would send his own sinless son to die in place of self-centered, selfserving, Christ-rejecting sinners in a last ditch effort to save them from themselves. The songwriter, perhaps overwhelmed with this thought, responds in this way:
If that isn't love;
Then the ocean is dry,
There's no stars in the sky,
And the sparrow can't fly.
If that isn't love;
Then heaven's a myth,
There's no feeling like this,
If that isn't love!
Now, I know we all know this, and I know that Im preaching to the choir. I just thought if we could catch a fresh snapshot of Gods heart and place in inside of ours it might help us to keep a healthy spiritual perspective
