13 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Reflections:
Its really amazing the many ways God speaks to us. Sometimes its in our prayer time, sometimes through the Bible, through other Christians, non-Christians, bumper stickers, billboards, etc. You name it and God can speak to our hearts through it, and He does!
I was driving home from work last evening and saw a Do Not Enter road sign. It immediately caught my eye and spiritual comparison started coursing through my mind. I thought, how many times we, as Christians, ignore the spiritual street signs in our lives and proceed in a way we know we ought not too.
How many times has the Holy Spirit spoken and said, Youre going the Wrong Way, or Slow Down youre moving way too fast. It seems were more obedient to street signs than we are to the Lord. The reason of course is that we can be heavily fined for breaking motor vehicle laws; whereas most Christians simply hide behind grace when they fall short and sin.
And then theres that Yield sign where were to consider others better than ourselves, and treat them the way we want to be treated.
The worst is when were running that Stop sign. When you encounter this you best pay close attention. Thats when were out of control and sinning the same sin over and over without regard to the Lord. Just to paint the picture a little more clearly perhaps, for example, youre involved in an ungodly sexual relationship and simply refuse to stop. What most Christians fail to realize is that grace simply will not work here. Without a heartfelt repentance, and a willingness to turn away, we own our sin and it will become a dry-rot to our spiritual bones.
My advice: we would do well to pay close attention to all the spiritual street signs the Holy Spirit uses in our lives. Theyre there for our spiritual well-being
