2 Kings 2:11-14 (New King James Version)
11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fireappeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen! So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. 13 He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. 14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
Reflections:
Elijahs mantle stood for glory and authority from God. Elishas faith and persistence won him his masters mantle when Elijah was transported into heaven.
Those of us who exercise our faith and persistence in Christ can receive His mantle. When Jesus was taken up into heaven, the Holy Spirit fell (like Elijahs mantle) upon the disciples in a manifestation of cloven tongues of fire; full of glory and authority -- thus empowering and jump-starting Christs church in the earth. Many miracles followed and multitudes were saved.
Somehow over the centuries weve lost a very large percentage of Gods glory and power; and for the most part the wonderful miracle of salvation is all that remains. For some this is more than enough, and for others it simply is not.
In these, the last times, I believe it is essential that we truly believe that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever!!! Perhaps, if a mighty chorus of believers cry out to God, the Holy Spirit will once again release all that heaven has to offer
