Jeremiah 12:1
1 Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?
Reflections:
Why does a loving God allow terrible things to happen?
Yesterday we looked at the dark side of this far reaching and seemingly insurmountable question. Today lets see if we can catch a glimpse of it from Gods viewpoint. There are some immutable truths about God that we absolutely know. We know them because theyre written down for us in the Bible. If we refuse to believe the written Word of God for our lives we are but ships tossed to and fro on the stormy sea of life, with neither anchor nor safe harbor.
One of these immutable truths is that we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to Hispurpose (Rom 8:28). It doesnt say that we will understand all things, that are happening to us, but if we allow him to, he will always bring beauty out of ashes. Why did Christ have to suffer more than any person it was of course to win back fallen man. But nonetheless God allowed the most righteous man ever to suffer beyond our comprehension. The Father didnt create his suffering, but He allowed it. There was a divine purpose and plan that required suffering to run its full course.
Another immutable truth: Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted evil and He Himself tempts no one (Jas 1:13).
The final immutable truth Id like to present is that the Fathers solution to all the pain caused by evil is His only begotten son Jesus Christ who proclaimed: The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD (Lk 4:18-19).
It may seem to us that Gods not there in crisis, but he is! He even bottles our tears (Ps 56:8-9). They are precious to him. Why He doesnt always come in the moments when we call out to Him we will never fully understand, but He willalways bind up our broken hearts and give us strength to go the distance if only well just trust him. Lets not allow our lack of understanding of things eternal keep us from the one who loves us most
