Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Reflections:
I was driving home from work one night some time ago and there was this large flatbed 18 wheeler in front of me with a huge concrete structure sitting on it. This thing was overhanging the sides of the truck two feet on each side and it looked like if the driver took a corner too fast he would tip right over. It was sitting on two very large wooden timbers and chained to the truck. I stayed way behind him for I knew if he accelerated too fast or stopped too quickly it would all be over.
The truck was obviously overburdened, unstable and downright scary. Do you know anyone like this? This might even be you. Many Christians walk around just like this. We typically view this verse in light of an unbeliever needing to come to Christ for salvation; even though it doesnt directly say that.
Sometimes we dont even realize what were doing, but were carrying around the full weight, of the cares of this life. Were walking in fear and were depressed about our circumstances. When we unconsciously do this we need someone to come along side, slap us upside the head, and say to us, Just what do you think youre doing?!! Jesus invites us to give it all to Him by faith and to enter into His rest, and to trust in Him in all things (Rom 8:28).
If youre feeling overburdened, unstable and your circumstance seems downright scary (like that old truck I saw) pull over and STOP! Read todays verse as many times as it takes for it to sink in. God loves you! Youre His child! He has a provision and solution for you and He truly wants to come along side and shoulder your burden; for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Will you let Him?
