1 John 3:17-18 (NKJV)
17 But whoever has this worlds goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NKJV)
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Reflections:
Jesus modeled this true dynamic of Christianity for us: putting faith into action through giving! Actually, thats all he ever did was give; even unto blood. These verses are talking about meeting the needs of brothers and sisters in Christ, and of perhaps winning souls to Christ through simple acts of giving.
Were surrounded by needy folks; folks who work hard to make ends meet, but just cant keep up. We gather together in fellowship with them, shake their hands and even pray that theyll be blessed, but do absolutely nothing to relieve the stress of need in their lives.
Now I know that giving has to be led by the Holy Spirit or else well just be spittin into the wind; wasting precious time, money and resources. But how about we make a covenant with God? One that states that if He clearly points out a valid need to our heart, that we will definitely respond to it. You say, but how will I know? Believe me, youll know!
This is dynamic Christianity in action! James put it this way, Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works (Jas 2:18b)
