Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)

17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.�

 

Reflections:

Most of us have heard about the �Authority of the Believer,� whether it was from where you fellowship, or through TV preachers. However it is surprising how few Christians really understand it. This is a powerful spiritual tool and definitely belongs in our arsenal. The Bible tells us that our real enemy isn�t made up of flesh and blood (even though, many times, we do take it out on flesh and blood), but is in fact a spiritual foe:

 

�For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere (Eph 6:12).� This verse puts John 10:10 into a whole new light: �The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.�

 

If you�ve been taught to ignore this biblical reality, this could well explain why you can never get the victory you so long for in Christ.  ��Be vigilant and cautious at all times; �for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour (1 Pet 5:8).�

 

Just how does this spiritual authority that Jesus gave us work? Well� let�s say you�re driving too fast down the street and a police officer puts up his hand and commands you to stop. Do you stop because He put up his hand? No, not really, you stop because of theauthority behind that little gold or silver badge the officer is wearing. Behind that little badge looms the entire judicial system.

 

Jesus Christ gave us His authority (spiritual badge), and it carries with it the full authority of the kingdom of God! We are told by Jesus to use it in His name; in this way: �Devil, I command you to stop in the name of Jesus Christ!� (just like the police officer did, but with a lot more authority behind it than the entire judicial system)!�

 

Unfortunately, because of not fully understanding our authority in Christ, most will say, �Jesus, will you please stop the devil from emotionally hurting me and stirring up my anger, or my depression, etc?� Jesus response: no, no, beloved, I defeated all the works of the enemy for you and gave YOU my authority over him � now you use it boldly in my Name! ï¿½
