John 6:25-27 (NIV)
25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, Rabbi, when did you get here? 26 Jesus answered, Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
Reflections:
Most of us would say we would have given our right arm to see Jesus ministering to the multitudes; casting out demons, miraculously healing the sick and preaching the kingdom of God like only he could. But not the folks in our verse today. They were more interested in the loaves and the fishes that they had eaten just the day before.
Okay, lets be honest with ourselves. Havent we also at one time or another come to Jesus looking for the loaves and the fishes too? We say, Yea, its great, all the things that Jesus can do, but what can he do for me? Lord, I need a new car, money, a better place to live, a ministry that will cause people to stop and take notice of how spiritual I am

Jesus knows what we need before we ask (Matt 6:8). If we will but pursue Him only, those things that we really need will surely be given to us (Matt 6:33).
I believe that what we seek speaks of who we are spiritually. Are we satisfied, like Mary (Lazarus and Marthas sister), just to sit at the feet of Jesus and receive life from the Holy Spirit, or do we tend toward the loaves and fishes? This is not a bad question to prayerfully ask ourselves, allowing (of course) the Holy Spirit to make the assessment -- not our own logic and reason.
Allow me to leave you with this verse from the Amplified Version of the Bible:
I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the [uncompromisingly] righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread (Ps 37:25).
