2 My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. 2 For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, 3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, You sit here in a good place, and say to the poor man, You stand there, or, Sit here at my footstool, 4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
Reflection:
We never know who God is sending to our door. Im quickly reminded of this scripture: Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Heb 13:2). Now, Im not going to tell you that an angel came to my door (at least I dont think shes one), but I will tell you that Ive, once again, been reminded not to perceive a situation through my natural senses, using logic and reason, but rather to follow the principles of God found in the Bible.
Recently a woman wanted to visit our small home church gathering. At first I hesitated to invite her because one of her two children is mentally challenged, and is sometimes quite disruptive. A small gathering like ours, I thought, just couldnt support such distractions and disruptions. I decided to have the person who was suggesting she come, tell her not to come.
Well!!! It didnt take long for the Holy Spirit to go up one side -- and down the other side of me with a stern rebuke, Who are you not receive one of my children, no matter what the potential situation looks like to you! As you can imagine, shame instantly arose within me and I told God how sorry I was for being so selfish.
I immediately called the person who had asked if the woman could come and told her to tell the woman how sorry I was for making such a poor decision; and that she was more than welcome to come. As it turned out my first message never got delivered, and so it looked like I was still the good guy (that is until she gets wind of this).
I cannot tell you how much of a blessing this woman has become to our little church over the past few weeks -- in spite of her childs occasional disruptions. This woman is a humble, mature, godly woman who understands the Holy Spirits leading; able to pray and to prophesy with boldness and passion.
I sure hope I do better next time
