Isaiah 28:20 (Amplified Bible)

20For [they will find that] the bed is too short for a man to stretch himself on and the covering too narrow for him to wrap himself in. [All their sources of confidence will fail them.]

 

 

Reflections:

In this verse the prophet Isaiah was prophesying the coming judgment of God upon Judah from the Assyrians army. They would find themselves in desperation with no protection from God. The walls of Jerusalem would fall short of defending them like a bed too short and a blanket too narrow.

 

We�ve all found ourselves in similar situations where we just didn�t have what it takes to get us through. We have cried out to God, but because of ongoing sin in our lives, we have ended up with the same short bed and narrow blanket. We find ourselves in bad straights with no one to turn to; not even God.

 

Well, there�s good news for the Christian: We can trade in our short bed and narrow blanket for one that fits us perfectly. All we have to do is (unlike unrepentant Judah) repent and surrender to the plan of God. God will surely forgive us, and re-establish us, becoming our impenetrable fortress of protection.

�If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

 

A relationship with God, to be vital and rewarding, must be fueled by a deep ongoing desire to know Him more. This intimacy with God will be that which sparks our greatest measure of success in the earth, not to mention eternal rewards.
