Ephesians 6:10-13 (NKJV)

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Reflections:

Our reflection yesterday was about those of us who have been bound to our past so completely that we find that, as hard as we might try, we simply cannot move forward emotionally or spiritually. Were like that bird in the cage that refuses to fly free because of fear and unbelief. Weve been set free in Jesus Christ , but remain captive to self in our own emotions.

We keep trying desperately to understand why we respond to situations the way we do, and why we are bound by so many wrong behaviors and responses. Many have sought professional help only to find that the pain still persists. We may, as a result of this help, end up understanding our problem more, but deliverance from its clutches remains an elusive mirage.

We engage in addictive behaviors to try and mask the pain, and then we have to struggle  hard to get free from the addictions. As soon as we do we just turn to a different addiction. From drugs, to alcohol to, cigarettes; the list goes on and on. We feel the only one we can blame for all of this is ourselves and so we begin to try and change the way we think. Maybe if I try hard enough it will go away, but it doesnt. Even Christianity doesnt seem to work!

The answer to all this is in our verse today. Weve been fighting against our own flesh and blood. We must get this right: I am not my enemy, nor am I my problem! The real problem is found in John 10:10a, The thief comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. And the real answer in found in the second part of John 10:10b, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

A spiritual war cannot be fought  in the flesh on a natural, emotional battlefield. We must enter the spiritual arena where the true war for our souls is raging, and with the authority of Christ, we must go toe to toe with our real enemy the devil, and this time we must win! We have to face our demons square on once and for all and defeat them, one at a time, until none remain. Only then will the war within finally cease. Only then will we stand victorious in Christ.

If this all seems too far out there for you, then just read todays verse again and this time, really try and believe it!
