Matthew 5:5
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Reflections:
If we will allow the Holy Spirit to apply the first part of today�s verse to ourselves (meekness) in these pre-millennial days, then one day, in that not so far distant future, we will rule and reign with Christ for one thousand years on the earth (�we shall inherit the earth�) -- and beyond.
Meekness, in the setting of a culture such as ours, sounds like such a weak and passive profile to take on, but just look at how W. E. Vine describes its meaning in his book �Vine�s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words:�
�It must be clearly understood, therefore, that the meekness manifested by the Lord and commended to the believer is the fruit of power. The common assumption is that when a man is meek it is because he can�t help himself; but the lord was �meek� because he had the infinite resources of God at His command.�
Meekness is in fact power under the control of the Holy Spirit! It is our surrendering; our dying to self in order that Christ�s life and power might live in us, and flow out to others, as we yield to that insatiable spiritual fire that burns deep within us.
Let us not confuse meekness with weakness. We are, in Christ, far from weak �
