29 Is not My word like a fire? says the LORD, And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
Reflections:
The context of this verse is a response to the false prophets who were prophesying their own imaginations instead of the living Word of God. God was comparing the result of His word in contrast to theirs. Their words never came to pass, but God word was like a fire and like a hammer. Gods word consumes and breaks everything in its path.
Todays verse occurred around 600 B.C.. Now thats a long time ago, but in spite of all that time Gods word is still like a fire and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces -- even today. Weve all felt the hammer of Gods conviction and its weight of sin upon us. It literally broke us into spiritual pieces. Isaiah cried out, Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
We, like Isaiah, came to that place where we too cried out YES to God as we allowed him to purge our sin and rebuild us in His own image. We were born-again! Thank God for His hammer of conviction!
In Luke 3:16 John the Baptist answered, saying to all, I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to lose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. To baptize means to fully immerse In Fire! Have you felt its intensity burning in your soul, bringing all the slag of your whole past to the surface so that He could skim it off and make you whole? There is nothing like Gods healing fire.
As we continue to move on in our Christian walk we inevitably fan this fire in a holy pursuit to serve Him more. As we continue to pursue Him this fire becomes uncontainable and breaks out into a firestorm of desire to serve Christ. Im reminded of an old, old quote, Those that minister are immortal until their work on earth is done, and I would rather burn out than rust out. If you havent experienced the force of Gods hammer and the flame, ask if you dare
