1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Reflections:
Wow! Thats a really tall order! To keep no record of wrongs runs against the grain of our human nature. Some of us have suffered great injustices at the hands of evil men, women, friends and even family.
Even the Psalmist knew the sting of betrayal:
Even my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted (relied on and was confident), who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me (Ps 41:9).
But we as believers know that through choosing to forgive and asking God to bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you that forgiveness does come and the sting of betrayal is finally removed; but only in Christ!
In so doing (forgiving) we reflect the very heart of our heavenly Father who through the loving sacrifice of his own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, has removed our complete record of wrongs as far as the East is from the West.
Just think, were forgiven and Hes holding nothing against us. Whats more Hes given us the very same potential, through the Power of the Holy Spirit living within us, to do the same to others.
The only question that remains is, will we
