1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)
13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
Reflections:
There is so much here, in terms of the God-kind-of-love, that it would take an eternity to exhaustively reveal all there is within this little word called, �love.� It defines the very character and nature of God. �God is love (1 John 4:8 & 16).�
In that we are created in God�s image, we share in this reflected love, albeit faint and fuzzy much of the time. Sin had muted its effect in the earth, that is until redemption by the blood of the sinless, spotless Lamb of God, Jesus, the Christ of God shined upon humanity. Now because �that same Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells within us,� love�s light can be intensified in the earth � through us!
Love is such that it must be surrendered to in order for it to reflect properly. The Holy Spirit is that mirror, in us, through which love properly reflects. This can only happen in a �death-to-self,� alive-in-Christ heart.
Whenever I read the list of love�s attributes I am always struck, and stopped in my tracks, with the phrase, �Love keeps no record of wrongs.� This is such a pure thought reflecting directly off of God�s heart towards us.
�As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us (Ps 103:12).� �This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more (Heb 10:16-17).�
My question for us today is, �Are we willing to reflect the love of God by allowing the Holy Spirit to purge our hearts, and to erase any and all injustices done to us, � for true love �keeps no records of wrongs � ?�
