2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NKJV)
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christs sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Reflections:
Many Bible scholars have tried to understand what Pauls thorn in the flesh was, but to no avail. We who study scripture all have our own opinions, but thats what they are, opinions. Not knowing Pauls thorn doesnt diminish the potential in these verses, not even one little bit. My grace is sufficient for you is true no matter how you interpret it.
We all have desires and weve all tried to twist Gods arm to bring them to pass. Most of the time this really doesnt do too much good and we usually end up mad at God and all twisted around in our emotions. We really dont get to tell God what to do, He gets to lead and direct us by the Holy Spirit. His plan is always perfect and right for us.
This all goes back to the same thought of its not all about me, but rather its all about Gods workings and timing in the earth through me. Its a lot less wear and tear on our emotions when we simply choose to rest in faith and to trust in Gods boundless grace.
When we do it right we grow spiritually stronger. We, like Paul, should take pleasure in our infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon us. When we become weak (not trying to do something in the flesh), the Holy Spirit rises up in us in strength. This is what life in the Spirit is all about.
Perhaps its time to stop the striving and to simply realize that My grace is sufficient for you
