2 Timothy 2:3-4 (Amplified Bible)
3Take [with me] your share of the hardships and suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.
Reflections:
Did you ever go fishing and when casting out your fishing line end up with a backlash in your fishing reel? Or if you knit or crochet, did your yarn ever get really tangled? If so you have a sense of entanglement. You know how much effort and frustration this can entail in order to get things back to normal.
We as soldiers for Christ are called to be a spiritual militia for the kingdom of God. If we are to be profitable servants of Christ we must let the world deal with its own tangled affairs. There are good moral and religious folks, who are unfortunately unsaved, that can try and fix the world. We are called to be in the world, but not of it; un-entangled and free to serve the kingdom of God We have made our choice and that is to follow Jesus Christ ...
A very simple but profound song No Turning Back:
1st verse: I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
2nd verse: The world behind me, the cross before me;
3rd verse: Though none go with me, still I will follow;
