Psalm 119:35-37 (KJV)
35Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.36Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. 37Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
Reflections:
Weve all heard those motivational speakers trying to pump us up and say that we can be whatever we set our mind to be. If you want it bad enough you can achieve it! When a race is run there is only one winner. If we want to win we have to train, or work hard and long in order to find our self in the victory circles of our society.
Thats the way the world does it, but there are few that actually win. The truthis that we might not end up attaining that which we desire no matter how hard we train, or work to achieve it. Of course we can increase the odds by cheating and stepping on peoples heads while trying to climb up the ladder to success. Its often been coined The Rat Race, because everyone acts like one in order to succeed.
The word incline jumps out of our verse for today. It means to deviate from the horizontal to the vertical. To go higher. The Hebrew word for incline is natah and means to stretch out, extend, and spread out. Its interesting to note that the psalmist here isnt trying to motivate himself to become something. Oh, he truly desires to be something in God alright, but he has learned from his experience that its Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts (Zec 4:6).
What the psalmist is asking for is for God to ignite His holy fire within him: (You) make me to go; (You) incline my heart; (You) turn away mine eyes; (You) quicken Thou me. -- Lord, you do it in me!!! Beloved, this is the onlyway we will win every battle, and climb every mountain that life throws in our path. And when all is said and done, what will be said is, To God be the glory!
