Exodus 15:27ScreenHunter_06 Jan. 02 06.40.gif

New King James Version (NKJV)

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters.

Reflections:

Elim means, the place of palms. This oasis was Israels second stop after their exodus from Egypt. Elim was a respite from the children of Israels first testing by the Lord. Three days, before reaching Elim, they found themselves without water; and to make matters worse when they came to a place called Marah, where there was water, it was bitter and unfit to drink.

They cried out to Moses, what shall we drink? Moses cried out to God and God showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. They then came to Elim for their respite.

Their next stop after Elim was the Wilderness if Sin. The children of Israel cried out for food. Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. In response the Lord gave them Manna from heaven; six days every week for forty years.

There would be many more trials and times of testing along the way and much more complaining. God wanted a people of faith instead he got a complaining mob. Im not going to end this by saying we ought to have more faith. What I do want to point out is the Oasis between the trials.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (1 Cor 10:13). Yes, trials and testing will continue to come, even to His blood-bought children.

It would be nice, though, if we handled it a bit better than the Exodus crowd
