Joshua 6:15-21 (NKJV)
15 But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. 16 And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: Shout, for the Lord has given you the city! 20 So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.
Reflections:
This portion of scripture presents at least two facets of spiritual warfare. The first being to let God lead and go before us supernaturally, and the second where we follow through in order to obtain the total victory. In todays account obedience to Gods plan had to be adhered to closely: march around the city for six days and on the seventh day when you hear the sound of the trumpet SHOUT!
I dont know how God did it, but when rams horns sounded and the children of Israel shouted the walls came tumbling down. Perhaps a myriad of angels were stationed around the city and when they heard the shout they all pushed against the walls until they fell. Its interesting to note that the part of the wall where Rahab the harlot lived did not fall. Had it fallen her and all her relatives would have died; for she dwelt upon the wall (Josh 2:15).
But it didnt end there. That was only the first phase of the victory. That was Gods part. Now it was the Israelites turn to perform a holy massacre, which they did. We should rejoice in that Jesus showed us a better way to defeat our enemies; we kill em with kindness -- with the God-kind-of-love.
