Genesis 13:9-10 (KJV)
9 Is
not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me:
if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if
thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left. 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
Reflections:
Our verse today involves Abram and his nephew Lot. It seems they had too many cattle grazing in a relatively small acreage and the herdsman were bickering over space.
Rather than allow it to cause strife Abram and Lot decided to split up. Abram gave Lot his choice of where he wanted to settle and Abram would take what was left. Lot chose the beautiful well watered valley and Abram the high country.
On the surface it appeared that Lot really made out the best. What he didnt know was that the land he had chosen, Sodom and Gomorrah, was a wicked land of blatant homosexuality and inconceivable moral wickedness.
We read in 2 Peter 2:7-8 that lot was was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds).
