46 And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray. 47 Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. 48 Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. 49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, ï¿½Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.

Reflections:

The sea of life can be a ominous and scary place when its storms try and take us down, or it can be the most beautiful and serene setting one could ever desire. What makes the difference? JESUS! Oh, we can be assured that the storms will come, but one word from the Master and they will instantly cease.

The difference between turmoil and peace is that very moment in time when Jesus cries peace, be still and all becomes instantly calm. Its that divine suddenly that changes absolutely everything. For many this describes their salvation experience: suddenly they were born again, in an instant, and nothing would ever be the same again.

Truth be known, as much as we try and alter lifes circumstances, most of the time were just chasing after the wind. But in the fullness of Gods time things are suddenly changed and the storm is stilled. We dont even know how it happens. One moment there is turmoil, and the next there is peace.

We tend, over time, to forget those peace moments of life, but we never forget those awful storms. They become the indelible landmarks in our lives; the lighthouses that keep us from lifes rocky shoreline where danger is.
