Luke 10:17-20 (KJV)
17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 18And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Reflections:
Sometimes, amidst all the confusion here on planet earth, we lose sight of what spiritual life is all about. Just think, were going to be with Jesus, in His glorious kingdom forever! Now thats something to rejoice over! We dont know a whole lot about what that will be like, but we do know that Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Cor 2:9).
Were also told that God will wipe away all tears from our eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away (Rev 21:4). That sounds really great!
In the meantime theres a spiritual war raging around us every day. If weve learned how to deal with it, it too can be pretty exciting, because we know we win (just like the disciples in our verse today)! Jesus Christ gained a victory over all the works of the devil and then handed over His authority to us so that we, In His name, could also be victorious over all demonic activity in the earth (Eph 6:12).
This warfare is of course for the souls of men. It is said that the angels crowd around the banisters of heaven looking down on the theater of earth. The Bible tells us that there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents (Lk 15:10). We can only begin to imagine the cheers and excitement that swell from these curious beings when someone gives their heart to Jesus (1 Pet1:12).
We too, like the disciples of old, rejoice not only for the victory we have in Christ here on earth, but more importantly because we know that our names too are indelibly written in heaven ... YES!!!
