1 Peter 2:9 (King James Version)
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light
Reflections:
Gods intention is not that we would stand out, but rather that He would stand out-- that He would be our boast and our unending brag. Jesus said, And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. We are to show forth the praises of Him! not us!
We must be careful that false humility doesnt raise its ugly head within us. Remember, we have died to self in order to live for Christ; the one who died for us. Everyone likes to stand out and be complimented, but we mustnt do so at Christs expense. We mustnt draw men to ourselves -- will a man rob God?
Were told to store up riches and rewards in heaven. We do this by selflessly uplifting the name of Jesus, bringing glory only to Him. If we steal any of that glory, even for a moment, we lose that specific reward in heaven. Its well to remember Moses who lost out on the promised land because He grandstanded and deprived God of His rightful glory (Num 20:12).
The reason we steal Gods glory, knowingly or unknowingly, is simply because we want the praise of men. For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God (John12:43).
May we always come before God asking Him to help us keep our hearts pure and humble before Him -- so that He wins down here and so that we win up there
