Ecclesiastes 4:6 (KJV)
6Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.
Reflections:
Many of us have overextended ourselves pursuing the American dream -- a house, two or three cars, travel, excitement, and anything else that we thought would give us the good life. The problem is that along with all these things comes a very large price tag. In a stress-filled, severely waning economy, many are being forced to redefine what it really means to have a full and meaningful life.
Many are stepping back realizing that even though theyve attained all, or some of these things, theyre not really very happy. Actually many are downright miserable, wishing they had never run the dream-race. Worry over how to pay down credit cards, the Mortgage, the car payments, etc., etc. is taking its toll and causing many to fear for their tomorrow. Multitudes have become vexed in their spirit.
So whats the alternative? King Solomon, who had it all and more (and it vexed him sorely), says its better to only have one handful with peace and quiet than two handfuls with vexation of spirit. We as Christians really should have known better.
So how do we get there from here?
Step one is to realize the damage thats been done to our family by overextending ourselves, and to repent of it.
Step two is to pray that God changes our heart and makes us a wise steward of His financial blessings on our lives; however big or small they may be.
Step three is to ask God to help us to divest ourselves of lifes excesses until we find our one handful of quietness ------------------------------
