Matthew 10:37-39 (NKJV)
37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
Reflections:
In the natural, if someone finally rises up and finds their niche in life, most folks would rejoice with them; but not Jesus. To become a follower of Jesus is antithetical to the way the world operates. The kingdom of God functions in total contrast to this worlds ungodly society. In Gods kingdom whats down is up, and whats up is down:
And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted (Matt 23:10-12). To humble oneself and to serve is considered great in Jesus eyes.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matt 5:11-12). This really goes against the grain of the flesh.
But this one is the clincher: bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back (Lk 6:28-30).
