Proverbs 16:1 (AMP)

2 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits (the thoughts and intents of the heart).

Jeremiah 17:9 (AMP)

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?

 

Reflections:

Our hearts lay naked before the Lord. He can see right in. There are no cover-ups. Yes, God knows what�s coming next before we even speak it.

 

Most importantly He knows our motives. This can be very good, and bring with it blessings, or very bad. It depends on which heart we�re meditating with; the old or the new.

 

To complicate matters, and to make them even worse, the devil�s minions are always trying to trip us up and cause us to default to our lower nature. Bottom line is that we get to choose from which nature we will respond.

 

For me the only defense for this is to always try and stay in my new heart. This isn�t easy, but it�s the only way I know. The landscape of life is full of spiritual landmines just waiting for us to step on one. I�ve stepped on my share of them.

 

Sin is always pleasant to the eyes and desirable to the flesh. Temptations are everywhere, and will remain to be so as long as we are bound in this body of flesh. Perhaps this verse will help remind us of God�s provision for victory:

 

3 For though we live in the body, we do not wage war in an unspiritual way,4 since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments 5 and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Cor 10:3-5)�
