Exodus 15:2 (KJV)
2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
Reflections:
Moses had just led the children of Israel through the Red Sea and Pharaohs army was totally drowned. This incredible and miraculous miracle was landmarked with a song. Miriam, Moses sister, took up her timbrel and the people began to sing and dance with great celebration for such a marvelous victory:
I will sing unto the Lord,
for he hath triumphed gloriously:
the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
A song can be sung in celebration of something wonderful happening
A song can be sung about love
A song can be sung in times of sadness, loss and/or oppression like many of the black spirituals we have been blessed with.
What would life be like without a song? Sometimes a song is all were left with to bore us on with hope in order to help us dream of a better day. I believe the ability to sing a song is a purposeful gift from God.
Of course, like everything else the devil gets his perverse hands on, songs can be ugly, dark and evil. But were the children of light, not darkness. We're the only true light the world ever gets to see as we reflect the Kingdom of God.
This reflection came to being when I got up the other day and found myself singing the chorus of an old song written in 1954 by Stuart Hamblen entitled Open Up Your Heart (And Let the Sun Shine in):
Oh let the sunshine in face it with a grin,
Smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sunshine in face it with a grin,
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in
Thank God for giving us a song to sing ...

D. S. responded to yesterday's "Bible Portion for Today" regarding being "Saved, Healed and Delivered":
When I read verses like these I get goose pumps and there is a fire and desire to do great thing for the Kingdom of God, in and through the power of Christ Jesus. I have both first hand witnessed and personally experienced miracles in my own life and I'm sure we all could say the same. For me being delivered from drugs and alcohol. To a friend on his death bed being prayed over and coming back. Even the little things like needing a new place to live, or a car, or some money to pay bills. We see and hear it all the time. So what is holding me back. Why does it seem like everything is such a battle. I feel great right now, I'm excited, but truth be known when I walk out the doors today it will all be gone. Why?
Can anyone give a word of wisdom and encouragement ...?
