Ephesians 3:16-19 (NKJV)

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height� 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

 

 

Reflections:

 

This prayer by the apostle Paul, written to the believers in Ephesus, is also a great evangelistic tool. It�s actually more of a spiritual tool than an intellectual one. It�s like a spiritual rototiller which turns over the spiritual soil of the heart in preparation to hear the message of salvation.

 

 

It�s the preparer of good soil into which the seed of the spoken, or written word, can fall; and we know what happens when God�s word falls on good soil (Lk 8:8). Many times we try and plant God�s word on un-softened, hard soil and the results are usually less than desirable.

 

 

A brother just shared with me yesterday that prior to his salvation a missionary laid hands on him and prayed, �Lord, reveal yourself to this man so that he may know that you�re real.� It wasn�t too long later before this man heard the gospel and surrendered his life to Christ.

 

 

The soil had been prepared and the seed fell on �good ground.� As a result, forty-five years later, this man still stands as a beacon of hope and light for those he comes in contact with.

 

 

As oft as he has opportunity he still lays his hands on folks and prays this simple but powerful spiritual prayer, �Lord, reveal yourself to this man so that he may know that you�re real.� He then leaves the rest up to the Holy Spirit.

 

 

It�s really a shortened version of the same prayer that the apostle Paul prayed in our verse today. The neat thing about it is that it works �
