3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Reflections:
If youre a New Englander, like me, you can probably picture a bright winters day right after a heavy snow storm. The temperature often rises up into the high thirties or low forties, the sky turns bright blue, and sparkling clear. And the air is so fresh and revitalizing to breathe.
As we look around at this pristine winter wonderland we cant help but see the trees all garnished with several inches of pure white snow as though wearing a garment and lifting their branches in an offering up of praise to their maker. As far as the eye can see the landscape is robed in pure white reflecting the character and nature of a loving omnipotent creator.
Its interesting to note that it took a storm, out of which God showed forth his glory. For many of us it was a storm in our lives that drove us to Him. Many of us can remember the joy that flooded our soul; just to know our sins were forgiven and that we were on our way to heaven, thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Im also reminded, by this illustration, that all things truly do work together for good to those that love God; to those that are called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28). If ALL things in God truly work together for good, then we can conclude that all trials and tribulations are simply blessings in disguise just waiting to resolve themselves to the glory of God.
Lastly, Im reminded that God has provided for us a garment of salvation and a robe of righteousness. These are ours to wear whenever we choose too along with a garment of praise. When we do, we too feel clean, and pure and righteous, and all because of Gods mercy and grace expressed by a loving Savior who bled, died and rose again for our justification (Rom 5:1)
