2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not acceptedyou may well put up with it!
Reflections:
The word simplicity means: the state of being simple, uncomplicated, or uncompounded. This is the essence of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ! It is profoundly simple:
Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life and offered it in exchange for our self-centered sinful lives.
He bore the punishment for our sins in His own body on the cross, and through his resurrection conquered sin and death forever.
He invites us to come to Him and He will give us a new heart, and a full salvation, freely!
It doesnt get any simpler than this. We come as we are. We dont have to clean up our act, or go through a series of religious steps to get ready. Our personal righteousness is as filthy rags to him. All God is looking for is a contrite heart that longs for, and reaches out to, Him in faith. At this point something very beautiful happens to the human heart. It is filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit and comes alive feeling sublimely clean for the first time ever.
Im reminded of the words to a song entitled Something Beautiful:
If there ever were dreams that were lofty and noble they were my dreams at the start
And hope for life's best were the hopes that I harbor down deep in my heart
But my dreams turned to ashes and my castles all crumbled, my fortune turned to loss
So I wrapped it all in the rags of life and laid it at the cross.
Something beautiful, something good
All my confusion He understood
All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife
But he made something beautiful of my life
Simple, huh ? Thank you Jesus
