11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Reflections:
Its really hard to focus in and to imagine that Christ actually suffered, bled and died, the way that he did for us out of pure obedience to his Fathers will, and love for us. Just the thought of an innocent, spotless little lamb being slain, and bled-out for our sins, is way over the top never mind the blood of Christ being spilt!
Why did God choose such a gruesome solution to wash away the seeming indelible stain of sin on mans soul? Were told that Almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission (Heb 9:22). But why blood?
God did it to show us the seriousness of sin and how, because of it, no man (without exception) can come to him with sins stain upon his soul. The soul who sins shall die (Ezek 18:20a). In order to cancel this spiritual, eternal, death sentence blood had to be spilt and something, or someone must die -- a life for a life!
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul (Lev17:11). Animals blood being shed to cover sin, throughout the Old testament and into the New Testament, prophetically illustrated the price that Christ, the perfect sinless lamb of God, would one day have to pay to ultimately cancel our sin-debt once and for all.
John the Baptist, seeing Jesus coming to him proclaimed, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). The rest is history thank you, Jesus
