Psalm 78:40-42 (KJV)
40How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! 41Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. 42They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
Reflections:
For many of us the day we got saved, or soon thereafter, we realized that a miracle had taken place in our lives. For the first time we felt clean and like we had a new lease on life. We were born-again! That miracle of salvation literally ripped us out of the kingdom of Satans darkness and established us as a citizen of heaven! The devil never knew what hit him, it was so fast.
Now, beloved, thats a miracle! We mustnt say that God has never done a miracle in our lives, because He most certainly has! And if we meditate on this thought for awhile we can probably recall a lot of other miracles that Hes done for us. Some of us have had miracles of healing in our lives where weve prayed, and a short while later we became well. Some of us have even experienced instantaneous miracles of healing.
The problem is how quickly we forget, and begin to murmur and complain about our situation; just like the children of Israel in the desert. God had done the most incredible series of miracles that have ever taken place at one time (other than creation), but as soon as God tested their faithfulness and gratitude they consistently failed the test. They remembered not His hand and all that He had done for them.
You say, Not me! If an instantaneous healing or miracle happened to me, my faith would always be strong! The truth of the matter is that, left to itself, it probably wouldnt be. Time has a way of dimming most everything. The result of this is that, we limit the Holy One of Israel such that we are not able to extend the faith Hes given us back towards Him.
2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's (Ps 103:2-5) Did you catch it? David is speaking to himself here! If David can do it, so can we
