Revelation 21:1-2 (KJV)
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Reflections:
The final state of genuine believers is with God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) in the new Jerusalem which shall descend out of heaven. This will come about in the context of a new heaven and a new earth (Rev 21:2).
However, the beginning of this final dispensation will be bitter-sweet as multitudes upon multitudes will be assigned their portion in the Lake of Fire (Rev 21:8). There will not be, nor ever has been, any sadder moments than these as we watch the unsaved being banished from the presence of God forever.
Thankfully this horrific scene is short lived as God wipes away all tears, sorrow, crying and pain for all eternity. We the Bride of Christ will be ushered into that glorious city which is also called The bride, the Lambs wife. Perhaps it is called this because it was prepared for a bride without spot or wrinkle; those redeemed by the blood of the Lamb us!
What a wonderful city this city of God will be:
It has a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb (Rev 22:1).
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life (Rev 22:2).
And there shall be no more curse (rev 22:3). Hallelujah!
WE SHALL SEE HIS FACE; and his name shall be in our foreheads (Rev 22:4). (verse slightly modified by me)
And there shall be no night there -- for the Lord God is the light: and we shall reign forever and ever (Rev 22:5). (verse slightly modified by me)
And the best news of all is that the invitation, to this glory-filled city, still stands, And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Rev 22:17)
