Matthew 12:18-21 (AMP)
20 A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering (dimly burning) wick He will not quench, till He brings justice and a just cause to victory.
Reflections:
I love todays verse because it describes what we should be found doing as Christians. Jesus was the great physician who directed his ministry to the common folk, the downtrodden and to societys castaways.
The landscape of humanity is littered with the walking wounded; castaways who are crying out just to be wanted, loved, and touched by someone so that they too might be healed.
Its the easy way out to try and draw those that are well; those that can benefit us as we build what we perceive to be Christs kingdom on earth. However, Jesus said that, those that are well dont need a physician. Its to the lost, frightened and lonely sheep that we are sent.
So if were all comfy cozy and sailing along smoothly with the beneficial in-crowd, we might want to take a second look at whom were really called to be. Its not hard to find those bruised reeds and smoldering wicks amongst us -- theyre the ones we try to avoid.
Were called to be followers of Christ, the one who would not break a bruised reed, nor quench a smoldering (dimly burning) wick.
Does that truly describe you and me?
