Psalm 68:5-6 (AMP)
5 A father of the fatherless and a judge and protector of the widows is God in His holy habitation.6 God places the solitary in families and gives the desolate a home in which to dwell; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Reflections:
Some
folks lives are seemingly blessed from beginning to end, and others
lives seem destined to struggle through the emotional and situational
pain and suffering of a life of unfulfilled hopes and dreams. God has
made provision for hurting folks such as this. His provision is us; the
Body of Christ.
The Book of James touches on this as James writes,
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and
one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but
you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:15-17).
Its
just not enough to greet one another in fellowship gatherings, where we
are confronted with peoples needs, and then to walk away knowing that these same people are hurting and have very real needs.
Some
have no food, others are living out of their cars (or on the street)
and are desperate for love and genuine compassion. In the Book of Acts
in chapter 4:32-35 we see how the church began they had all things in common.
The
overbuilding of our places of worship has placed such a burden on
finances that there is little to give. This ought not to be so, but alas
it typically is, and therefore the burden falls on our individual
families to have compassion just as our verse today states.
Each
of us are called upon to prayerfully decide what we can, or will do,
for these hurting people. God forbid we stand by, look the other way,
and do nothing
