Psalm 40:8-10 (KJV)
8I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. 9I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. 10I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
Reflections:
Isnt it interesting that David said, thy law is within my heart. Note that David didnt say that Gods law was written on his heart (2 Cor 3:3), but rather that it was within his heart. David did it the hard way! By sheer passion David became an acceptable man of God, and when David did it right God blessed him for it. He didnt have a New Covenant mediator, as we now have in the Christ, who would do it freely for him.
David did believe in the coming Messiah as in evident in Isaiah 53. When David died he was carried to a place called Paradise to await Messiahs coming. He would wait approximately 1000 years in this Paradise for Jesus Christ, the Messiah, to conquer sin and death. Then he, and all the other saints of the Old Covenant (including the thief on the cross[Lk 23:39-43] ) ascended gloriously into heaven.
