John 14:26 (AMP)
26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.
Reflections:
Why is it that we dont hear very much about the Holy Spirit in todays churches? Its almost seems as though the church doesnt need Him any longer; but nothing could be further from the truth. In our verse today Jesus is essentially saying that he turned over the work of the Godhead directly to the Holy Spirit. He was, in the Book of Acts, and still ought to be, the very life and power of the church.
Without Him we are left with only a poor substitute of what once was a very powerful and dynamic body of New Testament believers. All the church programs -- all the best charismatic preachers -- all the high tech sanctuaries in the world cannot replace His holy and anointed presence. We, as the people of God, desperately need Him in our midst, collectively as well as individually, to lead, guide and to empower us.
In times of trials and testing the church (as well as individual believers) need to draw sustenance from this tree of life. The Holy Spirit is life. But it seems we have settled for the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil (human logic or reasoning)? The glory seems to have all but departed. What have we done? What have we done?
