8 He has shown you, O man, what isgood; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly,
To love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Reflections:
If were truly seeking God with all our heart we will inevitably start to pester the Lord and ask, Lord, what do you really want from me? Whats is my ministry to be God? Huh? Huh? Tell me will ya, huh?
We tend, of course, to desire the big guns of Christianity imagining a world-wide evangelistic ministry, or a supernatural signs and wonders ministry. We get lost in visions of grandeur; visions of spiritual sugar plums dance in our heads.
Jesus read his (and our) commission in a small synagogue in Nazareth one day: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord (Lk 4:18-19).
Yes, there will be some called to fire the big guns, but most of us will be called to simply reflect the glory of God through our caring actions towards one another as believers and the preaching of the gospel to the world around us -- as we are led about by the Holy Spirit.
Which is more important? Well, well have to just wait and see. Ive got a funny feeling its all the same as long as we do what we do with all our heart, mind and strength in the name of our awesome Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ
