Isaiah 64:8 (KJV)
8But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Reflections:
Pottery was originally made up of just clay and water. Its noteworthy that God fashioned Adam of the dust (clay) of the ground, breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul (Gen 2:7). Did you know that man is also made up of just about 62 percent water?
Clay was mixed by being tread out barefoot until the right consistency was reached (Isa 41:25). Life has a way of conditioning us as we learn obedience through the things we suffer. Theres been times, I know, Ive felt I was being tread under foot; big time! But once we reach the right consistency, God begins to use our lives to really show forth His praises.
If clay is baked in the sun it can be re-constituted by letting it set, and soften, in water for several days. It can then be re-fashioned. However, once it becomes baked in a fiery kiln it can never be refashioned. By the same token, if we try to walk out Christianity in the natural man we will only end up with a dry form of religion. But if were baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire we end up fully set (convinced) in our faith! No turning back, no turning back
Oh, and we mustnt forget how uniquely the Potter fashions each piece of pottery; thats what makes us so special to Him
